Unity of The Blue Ridge's Diversity Enhancement Program presents, BIPOC RAW -A Conversation Between People of Color, intended for people not of color, for the express purpose of deepening the understanding of racial mindsets and experiences in order to bridge the gap to racial unity.  Facilitated by Rev. DeBorah Ogiste, Sharon Oxendine and Vernetta Eleazer - August 26, 2020, 7:30 pm.

For our August session, BIPOC Raw is featuring From Smallwood to Big Timber; Navigating Systemic Racism in Americaa conversation with Genevieve Charlene Smallwood Brown, whose name is synonymous with “tenacity” and “courage”. From 1956 until 2008, she kept her eye on the prize as she quietly navigated over many invisible, and often painful, bumps in the road. During her journey she was the first in many of her endeavors and accomplishments from being the first African American in some cases and the first woman in others. As she navigated through the challenges of the 1900's she was even listed in the Who's Who of American woman. With wit and wisdom she will allow you to have a glimpse of her world.
