June Initiative - Restorative Justice Quilt project

Restorative Justice Quilt project

Our outreach project is inspired by the men in the Restorative Justice program at South Central Correctional Center in Licking, Missouri - featured in the Netflix documentary Quilters (info here).

Through this program, incarcerated individuals find purpose and healing by creating personalized quilts for children and teens in foster care - a powerful act of "walking in their shoes".   We’ll be collecting supplies throughout June, and then sending a care package to support their efforts, including letters of encouragement and appreciation.

  • Fabric: 100% cotton quilting weight fabric, including pre-cut fabrics like fat quarters, jelly rolls, and layer cakes, as well as quilt kits, panels, and patterns.
  • Batting: Cotton or 80/20 cotton/polyester batting
  • Thread: Thread for both piecing and quilting.
  • Sewing Machines: Portable sewing machines in good working condition are often a great help.
  • Sewing Supplies: This includes essentials such as rotary cutters, cutting mats, scissors, pins, and needles.
